The University of Namibia (UNAM) recognises and values the importance of research in the creation and dissemination of new knowledge and fostering socioeconomic development by addressing challenges faced by society. The University supports and promotes research that enhances the institution’s role in making a positive difference to the quality of lives of members of society. UNAM has thus put in place enabling structures, processes and procedures in order to realize these goals.
In accordance with the provisions of the University Research Policy, the Centre for Grants Management and Resource Mobilization manages grants, projects and resource mobilization activities. Calls for funding opportunities are regularly distributed to UNAM academics by the Centre as and when they are published. Regular engagements with potential funders are held in order to optimize funding opportunities for our researchers. The university undertakes commissioned research and consultancy services as well.
The Centre for Grants Management & Resource Mobilization (Grants Office) was established in June 2019. It serves a strategic role of coordinating and supporting efforts towards mobilization and management of financial resources. These can be mobilized through research & non-research grants, consultancies, commissioned research, non-accredited short courses, and others financial interventions in an effort leading to income generation ob behalf of the University of Namibia (UNAM). The Grants Office does this by offering professional administrative support to researchers in all Faculties and Campuses of UNAM.
The Grants Office ensures:
1. Provision of donor and funder information for local, regional and international grants and consultancy opportunities and disseminating them to all relevant staff of UNAM
2. University standing quality measures to consultancies and grants proposal development and management are applied and adhered to;
3. Provision of support during pre-award stages of the projects (the preparation of grant and consultancy proposals);
4. Working closely with the UNAM staff and consultants during implementation of projects (Providing the post-award management services include award management, financial reporting and project closeout).
5. Record keeping of all grants and projects acquired by the University.
